Advent

What is your go-to bible verse? According to the YouVersion Bible app, which is installed on more than 350 million devices, the most popular bible verse for 2018 around the world was Isaiah 41:10, which states,

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

This verse, in which God exhorts his people to trust him, demonstrates God’s love, care, and protection for His people. Interestingly, this verse is similar to last year’s most popular verse, Joshua 1:9, which reads,

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

The common theme here is that as long as we trust in God and have faith in Him, we do not have to worry about anything. In other words, peace comes when we let God be God and trust Him fully. As a pastor, it is encouraging to see so many people turn to God’s word for hope, comfort, and assurance. During this advent season, let us remember that Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. As it is written in Matthew 1:23,

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

Merry Christmas!
